Natasha Cloud Trade Marks First in Unrivaled 3on3 League

The Unrivaled 3on3 league made history on Saturday night with the announcement of its first-ever trade. In a unique three-way deal, Natasha Cloud was transferred from the Laces BC to the Lunar Owls and subsequently to Phantom BC, which also secured the final wild-card slot. The Lunar Owls, in turn, received Courtney Williams from Phantom BC. The Laces BC gained Jackie Young and Tiffany Hayes in exchange for Cloud.

The deal marks a significant moment for the young league, which is set to begin its inaugural season on January 17, with the first set of games scheduled in Miami. The six teams, which were drafted last month with the goal of creating as balanced rosters as possible, will compete for the title. Each team’s total salary pool exceeds $8 million, with players also receiving equity in the league, further emphasizing the league’s commitment to player empowerment.

In the lead-up to the season, the league continued to make waves by signing notable players. On Friday, Katie Lou Samuelson was added to the 36-player roster, while Cameron Brink, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, signed a multi-year deal with the league. Although Brink is recovering from an ACL injury and will not play this season, the Lunar Owls hold her rights. She will continue her rehabilitation and participate in various promotional activities.

While the league’s structure is taking shape, one player who will not be part of the season’s roster is Caitlin Clark. Although the WNBA Rookie of the Year is not joining Unrivaled this season, she has expressed interest in joining the league in the future.
