World’s Smallest Rubik’s Cube Unveiled: A Tiny Collector’s Item

World’s Smallest Rubik’s Cube: A Collector’s Dream

MegaHouse, a Japanese toymaker, has unveiled an extraordinary collector’s item: the world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube. Measuring only 5 millimeters across each face, this micro version of the iconic puzzle is so tiny that solving it may require the use of tweezers. Weighing just 0.3 grams and made from durable aluminum, this miniature cube is a 1,000th of the size of the original puzzle, which typically measures 2.2 inches on each side.

Tiny Precision and Craftsmanship

Each of the six faces of the cube features nine 1.6-millimeter squares. The creation of this tiny puzzle involved a collaboration between Iriso Precision, a company responsible for its precise cutting, and passionate Rubik’s Cube enthusiasts. Kiyokazu Saito, president of Iriso Precision, explained that producing this miniature cube required advanced machinery and cutting tools to achieve the fine detail and functionality.

In August, Guinness World Records officially confirmed that this cube holds the title of the world’s smallest rotating Rubik’s Cube, surpassing the previous record of a 5.6-millimeter cube created by British designer Tony Fisher in 2016. MegaHouse began working on the cube’s concept four years ago and started production in 2022.

A High-End Collector’s Item

The miniature Rubik’s Cube is priced at an eye-popping 777,777 yen (around $5,320), making it more of a collector’s piece than a practical puzzle for everyday use. Each cube comes with a stand that proudly declares it as the “World’s Smallest Rubik’s Cube.” This release is perfectly timed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube, which has sold over 500 million units worldwide since its invention by Hungarian designer Ernő Rubik in 1974.

The Rise of Speedcubing

The miniature cube also arrives at a time when speedcubing—the competitive sport of solving Rubik’s Cubes—has reached new heights. The current world record for solving the standard 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube is held by Max Park, who completed the puzzle in just 3.13 seconds. The fascination with Rubik’s Cubes continues to grow, and this tiny version offers both a new level of challenge and a fascinating addition to the collection of enthusiasts.
