Former British Soldier Faces Trial Over Alleged Espionage for Iran

October 9, 2024

London, UK – Former British soldier Daniel Khalife, 23, is currently on trial at Woolwich Crown Court, facing serious charges of espionage for allegedly collecting sensitive military information for Iran. Khalife, who previously served in the Royal Corps of Signals, is accused of making contact with Iranian security forces and offering himself as an asset to Iran’s external security apparatus.

Escape and Capture: The trial has revealed that Khalife escaped from Wandsworth prison in September 2023 by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery lorry. He was later apprehended and brought to trial.

Double Agent Claims: Khalife has claimed that his actions were part of a double-bluff, intending to sell himself to UK security services as a double agent. He allegedly contacted MI6 through their website, offering to work for them while pretending to spy for Iran.

Prosecution’s Case: The prosecution argues that Khalife’s actions posed a significant threat to UK national security. They presented evidence that he had collected and recorded a large quantity of sensitive information about serving members of the armed forces.

Defense’s Argument: Khalife denies all charges, maintaining that his intention was to deceive Iranian intelligence and ultimately aid UK security services.

The trial continues, with the court set to hear further evidence in the coming days.
