Saskatchewan Businesses Send Christmas Cards to Seniors

A Saskatoon-based business initiative is bringing some holiday cheer to local senior homes this Christmas, addressing the challenges caused by the Canada Post strike. This year, DCG Philanthropic, a community-focused organization, began collecting Christmas cards for seniors after concerns arose that many holiday cards would not be delivered in time due to the postal strike.

The initiative quickly gained traction, with several local businesses joining the effort. Together, they successfully gathered over 900 Christmas cards that will be distributed to senior care homes across the city. The gesture aims to bring joy to those who may otherwise feel isolated during the festive season.

Morgan Wilson, a representative from DCG Philanthropic, cited her personal connection to the cause, drawing inspiration from her grandmother, who resides in a care home. Wilson expressed that her grandmother’s experiences motivated her to give back to others in similar situations, particularly during the holiday season, a time when many seniors can feel especially lonely.

The collection of cards will continue until Monday evening. Local residents and organizations are encouraged to drop off their cards at the DCG office, located at 1000 Central Avenue in Saskatoon.

This community-driven project is an excellent example of local businesses coming together to support a meaningful cause. By working collectively, they have provided an opportunity for people to contribute to the well-being of seniors who might not receive a visit from family members this holiday season.

If you would like to learn more about the DCG Philanthropic’s initiatives or find ways to support similar causes, please visit their official website or check out other local charity projects aimed at supporting seniors.

The success of this initiative reflects the power of community and highlights the importance of looking out for vulnerable populations during the holidays. This year, as a result of collective efforts, hundreds of seniors in Saskatoon will experience the kindness and thoughtfulness that the Christmas season represents.
